I Don’t Want a Lot For Christmas…I Just Want That Song to End

OPINION: You either love it, or you hate it – Mariah Carey’s seasonal earworm Christmas song demands you take a side.
I+Dont+Want+a+Lot+For+Christmas...I+Just+Want+That+Song+to+End

It’s around that time of year: the Holiday season. This also means Mariah Carey has officially defrosted and has already made her return. But quite frankly, I’m TIRED of hearing her.

Firstly, it’s very repetitive, and is very monotonous, and, you know what? That’s fine! But the problem is when this song is playing 24/7, everywhere. When you sleep? Mariah’s there. When you eat? Mariah’s there. When you BREATHE? Mariah’s is there. I’m sick of it, and I’m pretty sure Mariah is too. Well, probably not, because I just know her pockets are always full.

Secondly, her song wants NOTHING to do with Christmas:

“I don’t want a lot for Christmas,

There is just one thing I need,

I don’t care about the presents,

Underneath the Christmas tree”

The fun of Christmas is giving (and receiving) presents – it’s the one day out of the year that you can ask for that one thing you’ve always wanted in the hopes it’ll appear under the tree Christmas morning. She’s trying to manipulate people into being cheap and effortless.”Oh, you don’t need a gift, my love is the gift.” If that’s the case, then I’m getting the same EXACT gift every day. Instead of mind-controlling people to “save” money, (why would you do that) she should encourage people to spend money on Christmas, the only time of the year where you’re legally allowed to go all out.
